This device is exceptional in dual-battery systems, in vehicles with a starter battery and an auxiliary battery, as it allows intelligent monitoring of battery charging in order to prevent unwanted interruptions. Cyrix-i 12/24V 230A is an intelligent battery combiner that self-selects its working voltage and prioritizes charging the starter battery. It is ideal on emergency vehicles, where maintaining the vehicle's starting capacity is essential (police, ambulance, fire brigade, interventions in electrical, gas, water and telecommunications networks, etc.), but also for other types of vehicles, including in the river or maritime naval field.

The Cyrix Battery Combiner is a rugged microprocessor-controlled relay that automatically connects batteries in parallel when one of them has reached a preset voltage level (indicating that the battery is charged) and disconnects when the battery voltage is below the set level (indicating that one or more batteries are discharged). Cyrix Battery Combiners are an excellent substitute for diode isolators. The main feature is that there is virtually no voltage drop, so the voltage supplied by the alternator or battery charger does not need to be higher.

Smart battery monitoring!

Some battery combiners (also called voltage controlled relays or split load relays) will disconnect a battery in the event of a short but high amperage variation. A battery combiner may also fail to connect a large, discharged battery bank because the DC voltage drops below the cut-off value immediately after connecting the batteries. The Cyrix-ct 12/24 software does more than connect and disconnect based on battery voltage and uses a fixed time interval. The Cyrix-ct 12/24 analyzes the overall trend (voltage increase or decrease) and reverses a previous action only if the trend has reversed within a certain time interval. Cyrix will shut down in case of excessive contact temperature, and restart after cooling. Cyrix-ct 12/24 automatically detects system voltage.

Prioritizing the starter battery

In a typical configuration, the alternator is connected directly to the starter battery. The accessory batteries and possibly a side-thruster and other batteries are each connected to the starter battery with Cyrix battery combiners. When a Cyrix device detects that the starter battery has reached the cut-in voltage, it will turn on, allowing the other batteries to be charged in parallel.
