Bidirectional voltage regulators for self-consumption: Solution for voltage problems in photovoltaic installations

The VR EQX voltage regulator range from Salicru - Spain for grid-connected photovoltaic installations prevents interruptions due to over/undervoltage in the supply line. Most regulations governing the connection of this type of system to the grid require that solar inverters shut down if their voltage exceeds certain limits. In unstable grids, this causes unwanted shutdowns in the photovoltaic installation, with consequent loss of energy production and a decrease in the useful life of the solar inverters.

Since, in the vast majority of cases, the surplus energy generated is injected into the grid (in exchange for compensation), traditional unidirectional voltage stabilizers are unsuitable as they cannot carry reverse current. Given that this constitutes a violation of regulations and exposes the loads to serious danger, manipulating the inverter is not a viable solution to the problem either.
