Description
This equipment has been designed to assist in water filling for large sizes or numbers of NiCd battery cells, especially where electrolyte levels cannot be easily seen. The equipment is offered by SAFT - France, the largest European producer of battery cells, a member company of the Total group.
The refilling equipment contains two basic units:
- the filling gun, which has a flow rate of 6.4 liters/min, automatically stops at the exact level when the spacer tube is used correctly.
- equipment for filling card, connected by a flexible hose.
Safety measures
- Remove all rings, watches and other items with metal parts before working with the battery.
- Wear protective equipment, rubber gloves, long sleeves, closed safety glasses, shield or mask.
- Never allow an open flame or spark near the battery.
- Never smoke while performing battery operations.
- Discharge any possible static electricity from clothing and/or tools by touching a grounded part before working with the battery. Use only ATEX certified flashlights or lighting equipment.
- Use insulated tools.
- The electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes. In case of contact with skin and eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water. If the eyes are affected, rinse with water and get medical assistance immediately.
- The use of this equipment is done only by professionals, after carefully studying the instructions.

OPERATING PROCEDURE:
- The battery for the filling cart is delivered disconnected. Before using the cart, connect the battery according to the instructions provided.
- Remove the cap and fill the tank ONLY with distilled or deionized water (according to IEC 60993). Replace the cap when it is full.
- Connect the outlet hose of the filling cart to the bottom of the handle of the filling gun. A quick connector is pre-assembled.
- Turn the power switch to the ON position. The switch is positioned behind the cart. The pump will energize for a few seconds and then stop.
- See "Filling the gun".
- Once the filling is complete, turn the power switch to the OFF position.
- Charge the cart's battery as needed. The battery needs 13 hours to charge. The battery must be kept at a good charge level.
Note:
- The watering cart cannot be operated while the charger is connected to the battery.
- Estimated running time with a fully charged battery is 2 continuous hours. Longer runtimes are likely with intermittent system use.
- Select the appropriate spacer tube for the type of cell to be completed. Consult the list of distance tubes from tables for correct spacing. The spacer tubes are individually marked.
- Attach the spacer tube to the front end of the probe by orienting the spacer tube so that it penetrates the probe first.
- Push the spacer tube completely against the tip of the probe so that there is NO visible space between the spacer tube and the top of the probe.
- Open the cell vent cover and insert the probe into the cell until the spacer tube sits on the open vent hole.
- Press and hold the handle until the gun automatically stops dispensing water and release the handle.
- Remove the probe from the cell.
- Repeat filling in other cells
Note: There will be water dripping from the probe after the handle is released. Let that water drain into the cell or to another desired location.
WARNING:
• Use the correct spacer tube to prevent overfilling or underfilling.
• Use only distilled or deionized water. NEVER use tap water.
• Complementary equipment should be dedicated to Ni-Cd batteries.
