In this sub-category you can find chargers for NiCd, NiMH, Li-Ion portable batteries. You must choose the charger according to the chemistry of the battery you want to charge (NiCd, NiMH, Li-Ion), but also according to its dimensions and the number of pieces you want to charge simultaneously (1-2-4 pieces simultaneously).
Also, chargers can be simple/standard (usually with slow charging) and smart or microprocessor chargers. The standard ones are for unpretentious applications, offering a simple charge and usually supporting only one type of accumulators from a chemistry point of view. Smart chargers are equipped with a microprocessor and usually detect the battery type (chemistry and voltage) by themselves, so that they optimally adjust the charging mode. Also, some have fast charging.
Smart chargers have multiple protections: for wrong connection, error, over-charging, high temperatures. Thus, they can stop the charging, a fact that gives a much increased safety in operation, but also an extended life span of the batteries used.
